Fiber

A fiber laser is a type of solid-state laser that uses an optical fiber as a gain medium doped with rare-earth elements such as erbium, ytterbium, neodymium, dysprosium, praseodymium, thulium and holmium. Typical wavelenghts produced by the fiber lasers range between 780 nm and 2200 nm. Fiber lasers are useful for a variety of applications, including laser cutting, engraving, drilling, marking, cleaning, and welding. They can be used in many different sectors, such as medicine (surgery, diagnosis, and therapeutic procedures), defense, telecommunications, automotive, spectroscopy, electrical, manufacturing, and transportation.

Browse our LaserShield® filters using the Wavelength Selection Tool in the left side navigation to select the optimal filter for protecing your vision from the damage a fiber laser could cause. If you need to calculate the OD for your required level of protection, please use our OD Calculator tool or call us at 800-521-9746 to assist you with choosing the right filter for your application.
