Cleaning Instructions

NoIR approves the following cleaning methods for NoIR, UVShield, GlareShield and LaserShield eyewear:

  • Mild detergent/soap and hot water
  • Commercially available lens cleaning solutions
  • UV disinfection (Click here for an example)
  • Highly diluted isopropyl alcohol

Clean NoIR eyewear with clear water and neutral cleaning agents and dry gently with a soft cloth. Improper cleaning can damage the lens surface and/or compromise the integrity of the lens or frame.

  • Do not use caustic chemicals or acidic cleaning fluids
  • Do not insert into sterilization of disinfectant fluids
  • Do not clean with ultrasonic system

NoIR's polycarbonate and glass lenses are mounted into nylon or polycarbonate frames. Filter absorption and protection properties are molded into the lenses and won't fade, scratch, bleach or wear off. However, discard and replace eyewear if surface scratches impair vision or if the eyewear is broken, cracked or otherwise cosmetically compromised.

Acrylic and Polycarbonate Laser Window & Flat Lens cleaning instructions:

DUSTING: Gently use a soft, damp cloth or chamois.

CLEANING: Use a small quantity of soap and lukewarm water, rinse well with clean water, and dry with a soft cotton cloth or chamois.

We recommend a product called BRILLIANIZE for cleaning plexiglass (acrylic), glass, and hard shiny surfaces. It helps to repel dust and it’s non-toxic – alcohol & ammonia free.

*Note on removing paper masking that protects plexiglass sheets: Paper masking can sometimes be difficult to remove and/or some of the adhesive from the masking can remain on the sheet. When this happens, soak the sheet in warm, soapy water to loosen the masking and/or adhesive.

If it’s tougher than normal to remove, you can use Goo Gone. Spray or pour Goo Gone on the masking or where the adhesive is difficult to remove and let it soak.

FOR SCRATCH REMOVAL: After years of use and cleaning, plexiglass may develop fine surface scratches. We recommend using NOVUS 2 with a 100% cotton cloth to buff out fine scratches.

CAUTION – DO NOT USE:

Window cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, gritty cloths, household scouring compounds, lacquer thinner, benzene, leaded or ethyl gasoline, strong solvents containing alcohol, acetone, or carbon tetrachloride, or ammonia.
