Alexandrite

An alexandrite laser is a solid state laser that uses an alexandrite crystal as the laser source or medium. It produces a wavelength of 755 nm in the infrared spectrum and is considered a red light laser. Alexandrite laser is used for treatment of various skin disorders such as vascular lesions (spider and thread veins), pigmented lesions (age spots, freckles,  flat pigmented birthmarks, and acquired dermal melanocytosis. It is also used for hair and tattoo removal.

Near-infrared, long-pulsed lasers such as the alexandrite pose risk to eye safety and can cause irreversible damage. Proper laser safety eyewear is important to protect the professional performing the procedure as well as the patient receiving it.

Browse our LaserShield® filters using the Wavelength Selection Tool in the left side navigation to find the appropriate filter for your alexandrite laser application. If you need to calculate the OD for your required level of protection, please use our OD Calculator tool or call us at 800-521-9746 to assist you with choosing the right filter for your application.  For patient protection, please check out our selection of Patient Protection products that include the IShield, PShield and disposable patches.
