Q-Switch
Q-Switch lasers use very short but high-energy pulses, typically only a nano-second long. They can produce different wavelengths of light, including 1064 nm and 532 nm. Q-switch laser applications include material processing (laser cutting, marking, drilling, and patterning), dermatology, tatto removal, fluorescence spectroscopy, pumping devices for nonlinear frequency conversion, laser rangefinders, and LIDAR for 3-dimensional imaging.
High pulse energies and peak powers pose serious laser safety issues for the eyes, even for lasers with low average output power. A single direct shot into an eye could cause severe retinal injury, so proper laser safety eyewear is critical.
