CO2

A CO2 laser is a gas laser with a mixture of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and helium serving as an active medium, and is the highest-power continuous-wave laser, operating at wavelengths of 9,300 to 10,600 nm. CO2 lasers have many applications. The industrial sector uses them for cutting, welding, and coating metals, as well as for laser marking, hardening, and sintering, and rust removal. The automotive industry utilizes them for perforating the breaking point in dashboards for airbags, and to manufacture headliners and side panels. In medicine, CO2 lasers are used in surgical procedures, including ophthalmology and treatment of skin lesions. Other applications include artistic engraving in wood and other materials, remote sensing (LIDAR), spectroscopy, and 3D laser printing of polymeric materials.
