Laser Safety Eyewear Selection Process

  • Consult the laser manufacturer’s documentation for the safe use of the system and for the LPE requirements.
  • Confirm the LPE protection requirements by calculating the OD and power density requirements based on wavelength and power in watts (or for pulsed systems, using wavelength, power in joules, pulse length in seconds, and pulse repetition rate in hertz). For confirmation, use laser safety software such as Lazan, LaserSafePC, Easy Haz, or the LIA’s Laser Hazard Evaluator Software.
  • Contact us for confirmation of the protection requirement calculations and for advice on the selection of LPE meeting those requirements. For further information on the eyewear selection process please refer to our Resource Page
